Metropolitan Theatrics
For alto-saxophone and piano
Commissioned and performed by Salvador Flores
Written for a project by saxophonist Salvador Flores to promote the work of Latinx composers, Metropolitan Theatrics is a work that savors its own dissonance. Writing the piece, I began with the idea of frantic music, evoking a bustling city full of people and their energy as they engage in daily urban activities. From its strong opening chromatic gesture, the piece strives to maintain its momentum as it takes its journey through a strange musical city until it arrives at the end, only to leave with the same gesture that set it all in motion.
Metropolitan Theatrics was premiered at the North American Saxophone Alliance 2021
The piece is published by Murphy Music Press and can be purchased here
